Doug “Rico” Carli continued to prove his worth as the most prolific poker player in the world series of poker Circuit (WSOPC) history on December 6th, 2009, achieving a record 40th cash-in with a 2nd place finish at an Atlantic City preliminary event.
Carli, who is from Alliance, Ohio, finished in 2nd place to Shawn’s Sniffin from New Jersey in the $500 +60 No-Limit Hold’em tournament at Harrah’s Atlantic City Sunday that attracted 621 players.
Although Carli said that he was a little disappointed with having to take home $32,980 for finishing in 2nd place instead of the 1st place cash prize of $60,237, he has no issue being the best poker player few individuals have ever heard of.

The prestigious Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic kicks off in Las Vegas today and Aussies will be keeping an eye on the progress of cricket legend Shane Warne who began his first day of play today representing 888 Poker.
Held at the famous Bellagio Casino from 14 to 19 December, the US$15,000 buy-in tournament is famous for attracting high rollers, big-name poker professionals and celebrities to compete for a total prizepool expected to be as high as US$10 million. Some of the previous winners include some of the greats in the game including Chino Rheem, Gus Hansen, Daniel Negreanu and Australia’s own Joe Hachem.

There seems to be a new star of TV poker this week, and he goes by the name of Father Andrew Trapp.
Trapp is an assistant pastor at St. Michael Catholic Church in Garden City Beach, Southern California, and is competing in PokerStars Million Dollar Challenge. The PokerStars tournament hits the airwaves this Sunday, and so far Trapp has already picked up $25,000.
The winnings have earned him the right to continue playing in the competition alongside poker greats such as Daniel Negreanu.

The 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event has reached a thrilling conclusion and we have crowned poker’s newest World Champion – his name is Joe Cada. Many predicted that Cada would have no problems overcoming the inexperienced Darvin Moon when heads-up play in the 2009 WSOP Main Event resumed today, but it turned out to be quite a ride. After a ceremony congratulating the other seven “November Nine” members, play got underway at around 10:30pm local time at the Rio in Las Vegas, and it took just one hand for the fireworks to start. A raising war broke out on a flop and when the hit the turn, Cada checked over to Moon, who fired 10 million into the middle as the crowd closely sweated the action.

The events in the Bodog Poker Open IV are guaranteeing a ton of added value, and players’ first chance to snag some of that dead money is this Sunday, when the series kicks off with its first event. On BPO IV starts on Nov. 1 at 4:30 p.m. ET with a $100+$9 no-limit hold’em event. That event will have $15,000 added to the prize pool, plus a seat in the BPO IV main event for the winner. The quarterfinals of the Littlewoods Poker World Heads-Up Poker Championship are happening now, and you can watch it live on PokerinEuropeLive.com. There were 16 players remaining for round 3 of the Littlewoods Poker World Heads-Up Poker Championship at London’s Grosvenor Victoria Casino yesterday but that field would be halved by end of play. Firstly, the cameras were pointed at Paul Zimbler versus Richard Gryko, but after an hour they were moved to the side to allow others some screen-time. Over time Gryko built up a lead, and finally the two got it all in with K-9 versus pocket sixes. Gryko’s K-9 beat Zimbler’s sixes and he moved through to the quarter-final.

WPT Season 8 Festa al Lago champion Tommy Vedes.The poker Gods appeared to finally give Tommy Vedes the break he needed in Las Vegas Monday night. The New York native, who fell just short of glory at the WSOP, the WSOPE and PokerStars EPT London, found himself on the wrong end of several coolers and looked sure to bust out at the World Poker Tour Festa al Lago final table time and time again. But somehow, someway, he kept finding a way to suck out and eventually the title, and the $1.2 million first-place prize, was his. “I feel great,” he said. “It’s unbelievable. Ashton Griffin: Made the first hit of the day.Unknown player Isildur1 was back at Full Tilt’s high-stakes tables yesterday, only this time he found himself sitting across from some of the best online players in the world. His attempt at repeating Thursday’s winning session began to fail miserably right out of the gate. The first player Isildur1 sat with was Ashton “theASHMAN103″ Griffin at a heads up $200/$400 No-Limit Hold’em. The players got it all in on the second hand dealt, Isildur1’s pocket fives unable to crack Griffin’s pocket aces. Two hands and $40,000 in losses later, Isildur1 logged off for a short break. He returned to the tables just an hour later to take a heads-up seat across from Full Tilt pro Brian Hastings.

The World Poker Tour $15,000 no-limit hold’em championship event begins today at Bellagio. The event is the 19th on the schedule for the 2009 Festa al Lago Classic tournament series that has been hosted at Bellagio. You can check out results for all of the preliminary events and news recaps for select preliminary events on the Festa al Lago landing page. The $10,000 pot-limit Omaha tournament at the 2009 Festa al Lago Classic concluded on Saturday, Oct. 17, and Ted Lawson (pictured right) topped the field to walk away with the $62,080 top prize and a Bellagio championship Rolex. Players that he surpassed on the way to winning the tournament included Matt Glantz, Pat Walsh, Justin Young, and Erik Cajelais on day 1, and Chris Bjorin, Ben Lamb, Jim Egerer, David ‘Devilfish’ Ulliott, and Jason Mercier at the final table. Lawson now holds $2,234,717 in career winnings. This tournament win was his second pot-limit Omaha tournament title. His first came when he won the $5,000 pot-limit Omaha event at the 2004 World Series of Poker.
