Mizzi Wins at Borgata
Sorel Mizzi continued his hottest year as a pro Thursday booking a win in the Borgata’s East Coast Championship.
While the $7,200+$300 event drew just 62 players to the Borgata Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, Mizzi still managed to earn $170,313 for the win, pushing his live tournament earnings in 2010 to over $1 million so far.
“This is great,” he told the Borgata Blog.” I played really well and am happy to survive. This was a tough, tough field.”
Mizzi defeated Chris Klodnicki heads-up and a final table that included poker superstars like Gavin Smith and Lee Markholt.
“This was a great structure, giving you a lot of room to play,” he said.
While 2010 is barely three months old, thanks to a final-table finish at the Aussie Millions Main Event, two side-event wins at PokerStars EPT Snowfest and this latest victory, it is already Mizzi’s best year as a pro.
The Betfair Poker sponsored pro now has better than $2.6 million in career live tournament earnings dating back to a tenth-place finish in the 2006 Ultimate Bet Aruba Poker Classic.
The Borgata Spring Poker Open continues through April 30 with the $3,300+$200 $1 Million Guaranteed Championship Event set to begin April 25.
