Poker-playing priest
There seems to be a new star of TV poker this week, and he goes by the name of Father Andrew Trapp.
Trapp is an assistant pastor at St. Michael Catholic Church in Garden City Beach, Southern California, and is competing in PokerStars Million Dollar Challenge. The PokerStars tournament hits the airwaves this Sunday, and so far Trapp has already picked up $25,000.
The winnings have earned him the right to continue playing in the competition alongside poker greats such as Daniel Negreanu.
A priest playing poker raises several questions of ethics, but Trapp is standing firm, making a statement in a recent release that “people across the country [need] to see that there are still young men choosing to be priests, and that one can be joy-filled and have fun as one serves God.”
Trapp defends his poker playing by saying that all of the winnings go to help build a new, bigger church. But what about the losses, Andrew?
