
A 2009 champion has yet to be crowned, but that hasn’t stopped Bodog from giving away a seat to the 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event. The Bodog Mini Poker Series wrapped up last week awarding a $12,000 prize package that includes the $10,000 Main Event buy-in for next summer. John “Getn_Outa_MI” Ormsby took it down, wrapping up the 13-event series with a win in the 82-person final event. “The possibility of winning a seat in next year’s Main Event was the main reason I was interested in playing in the Bodog Mini Poker Series,” said Ormsby. “I’ve always wanted to go to Vegas to play in the World Series, but have never had the chance.

On day three of the EPT Grand Final, with the blinds at 8,000/16,000 and a 2,000 ante, Gavin Griffin, one of the chip leaders, raised to 45,000 from mid-position with 4c-4h. Eric Van der Burg called from the small blind with Qd-Jd, and the big blind got out of the way. The flop came 5d-9s-Kd, giving Van der Burg a flush draw and inside straight draw. He checked to Griffin, who, with an underpair to the board, bet 65,000 into the pot of 120,000. Van der Burg called, making the pot 250,000. The turn came 6s, Van der Burg checked again, and the American fired a second bullet, pushing 95,000 into the pot.

221 players on Day 2 of WPT Bellagio Cup V, and 93 players remain at the end of second play day. Alec Torelli held on to his chip lead from Day 1B and will go into Day 3 with 590,200 chips. He is followed closely by Faraz Jaka and Vivek Rajkumar who have 519,300 and 494,400 chips respectively.

A poker player and former pro golfer has been told he can not compete in golf at the amateur level despite a former ruling by the USGA thanks to a million dollar poker and golf challenge that he issued. Dusty Schmidt, who stopped his pro golf career after a heart attack at a very young age, had his amateur status renewed when he returned to the game. After making a million dollar bet to anyone who could beat him at poker and 72 holes of golf, the USGA thinks he should be considered a pro, as he would be making money by playing golf.
Online poker room Party Poker will have a new site for their Italian players, as their parent company, Party Gaming, sees their agreement with Intralot SA made three months ago come to fruition. The Intralot poker service as passed certification from the Italian regulator, AAMS. While cash games are not yet available on the site, they are expected to come by the end of the year, provided there are no issues getting the concept passed the scrutiny of the Italian government. Party Gaming saw their public value rise with the launch of the Italian poker site.
Online poker room PokerStars has announced the schedule for the 2009 WCOOP with millions of dollars in guaranteed prize pools. The WCOOP is the World Championship of Online Poker, and consists of 45 events of all sorts, from Badugi to HORSE to Razz and Stud and the ubiquitous No Limit Texas Hold’em. The third annual Ante Up for Africa tournament has concluded for the 2009 World Series of Poker, and it is the last tournament before the Main Event starts. The tournament is designed to raise awareness about the atrocities and crisis that is happening in Darfur. The buy in for the tournament is $5,000 and players who cash in the money are expected to give at least half of their earnings to the charity. This is event is always sure to bring tons of celebrities and professional poker players.
The tournament saw a total of 138 players turn out. The total prize pool for the tournament was $670,680 with a first place prize of $177,730.

The winner of Event 55 at the 2009 World Series of Poker is Abe Mosseri, who defeated the crowd to win the gold bracelet for the $2,500 buy in Limit Deuce to Seven Triple Draw Event. The tournament was a 2 day affair, which pulled in 257 players, 24 of which made money in the game. Pro poker players like Erick Lindgren, Greg Raymer, and Barry Greenstein took place in the event but could not make it all the way, but many made it to day two, like Daniel Negreanu, John Juanda, and Victor Ramdin. Mosseri won $165,52.
