
Veteran Pro Freddy Deeb won the ACFpoker €20,000 No Limit Hold ‘em High Roller Freeze Out tournament at the WPT Grand Prix de Paris this weekend. Deeb came to the final table second in chips to perhaps the hottest player in poker right now, Sorel Mizzi. In the end, the two squared off heads-up for the title with Deeb doubling twice, including once with ace-queen against ace-king, to erase Mizzi’s massive chip lead and secure the victory. “I cannot believe I came back,” said Deeb. “He kept making me call, but I changed my game and got a bit of a break.” The win was worth €290,000 to Deeb while Mizzi added €120,000 to the more than $1.3 million he’s already won in 2010. The Godfather of poker has a daughter that can play very well. Doyle Brunson’s son Todd is known as a great player and now his daughter Pam is as well. She lead a team that took second place in the Throw Down Poker Championship on May 7th and 8th. The event was a charity poker series benefiting the National Kidney Foundation, and played last weekend in Reno, Nevada. There were 43 teams of 10 players each; the players earned points based on their progress and total points were added up to determine the winner. Pam Brunson’s team took second place and was comprised of non pro players.

The charity was created by poker pro Annie Duke and Hollywood actor Don Cheadle and has caught on in recent years as a popular charity. The World Poker Tour has returned to France for the WPT Prix de Paris tournament series at the Aviation Club de France. The Main Event is currently underway which has a €10,000 buy in. At total of 106 players entered into this event. The prize pool is a respectable €2,347,797 to be divided amongst 27 players with first place getting paid €633,902.

The 2010 PokerStars EPT Grand Final played down to 24 in Monte Carlo Wednesday and the final table is now in sight. As players like 2003 World Series of Poker champ Chris Moneymaker, English footballer turned poker player Teddy Sheringham, 2008 Irish Open winner Neil Channing, and 2006 EPT London champ Vicky Coren hit the rail, several players went from pretenders to contenders for the EPT Grand Final crown. There were 18 players remaining when action began on day 5 of the World Poker Tour Championship at Bellagio. By the end of the night a final table of 10 was set and they will return tomorrow at noon PDT to play down to the television final table of six. Leading the way is John O’Shea (pictured right) with 3,174,000. Many huge names are still left in play, including Phil Hellmuth and Scotty Nguyen. The day finished in less than five hours and there were a few surprising developments (like day 4 chip leader Faraz Jaka falling in 14th place) and some that were not so surprising (like Tony Cousineau busting out on the first hand of play after limping into the money with three big blinds). But in no week will they have a better chance than this week, when four qualifiers will square off against two of the biggest names in poker for a chance at $120,000. The poker brother and sister pair Annie Duke and Howard “The Professor” Lederer helped raise money for charity this past week. The charity event was held in Washington DC to help the Ante Up for Africa charity. The charity, co founded by Duke, raises money to help the crisis in Darfur, and the charity poker event wound up raising $70,000. The top prize was a $10 000 seat at this year’s World Series of Poker main event donated by Full Tilt Poker.
